Mahmutlar
We are proud to introduce our little town, Mahmutlar, located at the best spot
of the Turkish Riviera.
The coast belt that Mahmutlar belongs to has an amazing way of escaping the rain. When it is raining “cats and dogs” in the Alanya-district and on the other side towards Gazipaşa as well, we can get only a few drops. Still our fields are green from the water coming down from the beautiful mountains behind us. And, of course, we have rainy days here also, but not so many.
Through this website we hope you will learn a little more about us, and maybe even pay us a visit the next time you come to the Turkish Riviera.
“Because we are worth it…….”
Mahmutlar is rich in many ways. Not only because most Europeans want to live here. We have a great history also, and we are surrounded by the two most beautiful elements of nature: Mountains and ocean. And plenty of plantations with oranges and bananas.
Mahmutlar
Mahmutlar has 50.000 permanent inhabitants. And all together 100.000
– including the holiday residents - in the summer-period. The infra-structure is based on European standards - pipes and electrical systems, as well as the sewer-system. In 2004/2005 the shops on Barbaros Blvd. where changed from the traditional Turkish ones to the European standard. However, if you prefer the Turkish traditions – you will find what you are looking for on the Atatürk street. And at the Saturday market in the centre – or the Tuesday market in the eastern end of Barbaros. In the past people had to go to Alanya for certain things (shopping, bank, paying bills etc.). Today Mahmutlar has everything. And most people prefer to shop and eat in these quiet environments where no one “drags” you into the place or hangs over you when you look at the products. In Mahmutlar it is well-known that Europeans do not like to be “bugged” while shopping or eating.
Banks: 2 in the centre – TEB and Garanti. 1 further east - Işbank. And more banks are coming. There are at least 5-6 ATMs in the centre.
Post Office: 50 m east of the centre, on Barbaros Blvd.
Shops, restaurants, bars, small kind of discos (hotels), one large disco, car-rentals, handy-crafts, hairdressers and, of course, Turkish Baths.
For children we have many small parks, equipped for playing. And, after a walk, you can rest on a bench, in the sun, in one of the many small green parks, When we feel warm in the summer, maybe too warm - there are two good options:
The beach.
The place for relaxation. The place for enjoying a cold beer. The place for games and activities. Maybe lunch. A place to meet. All this can be done while a nice sea-breeze cools us down.
The mountain.
The largest group of foreigners here are the Dutch people. The fastest growing group now, is the Norwegian one. Dutch people go to Norway for one main reason. The nature.
And Norwegians stay in their country for one good reason. The nature. Take a good look at the photo. This, too, is Mahmutlar. No wonder why so many people from these two countries choose exactly this place when they decide to buy their second home.
Life is good in Mahmutlar!
Shopping.
Every Tuesday the east end of Barbaros street changes to a big market place. In this market the main products are clothes and bags. But also plenty of vegetables. And nuts. And sweets. A paradise for small children, and of course - for the female members of the family.
Every Saturday another market takes place in the centre of Mahmutlar. This market has more food, but of course also clothes and bags. Our tradition here is also "a better dinner on Sunday". Therefore Saturday is a very important shopping-day for food. After buying all the fresh, nice vegetables at the market, the next stop is one of the many butchers.
Normal shops are mostly like we know them in Europe. You can still manage to get the prices lower than the tag says. But the big bargaining is reserved for the markets. Mahmutlar has so many shops that there are only very special things we have to go to Alanya or Antalya to get. And more and more is coming, you can be sure!
